چکیده

The fire spreading phenomenon is highly complex, and existing mathematical models of fire are so complex themselves, that any possibility of analytical solution is precluded. Instead, there has been some success when studying fire spread by means of simulation. However, precise and reliable mathematical models are still under development. They require extensive computing resources, being adequate to run in batch mode but making it difficult to meet real-time deadlines. As fire scientists need to learn about the problem domain through experimentation, we also need that the simulation software to be easily modified. We used different discrete event modeling techniques to deal with these problems. We have qualitatively compared DEVS and Cell-DEVS simulation results against controlled laboratory experiments, which allowed us to validate both simulation models of fire spread. We were able to show how these techniques can improve the definition of fire models.

Creating Advanced Fire-Spreading models using the CD++ toolkit

recent research efforts focused on the creation of fire spreading models using Cellular models. The Cell-DEVS formalism and the CD++ toolkit allow the user to construct their applications using simple and more intuitive model specification, which can execute with high efficiency using a discrete event approach. It was shown that different environmental applications can be easily faced, allowing...

Dynamic Structure Cellular Automata in a Fire Spreading Application

Studying complex propagation phenomena is usually performed through cellular simulation models. Usually cellular models are specific cellular automata developed by non-computer specialists. We attempt to present here a mathematical specification of a new kind of CA. The latter allows to soundly specify cellular models using a discrete time base, avoiding basic CA limitations (infinite lattice, ...

Forest fire modelling and simulation in the DELTA environment

Traditional simulation methodology supports only changes in models state variables. Some models are better expressed by a combination of both changes in state variables and changes in structure. Dynamic Structure Discrete Event Specification (DSDEVS) is a recently introduced modelling and simulation formalism that provides full support for representing models with time varying structure. The DE...

DEVS-FIRE: design and application of formal discrete event wildfire spread and suppression models

DEVS-FIRE is a discrete event system specification (DEVS) model for simulating wildfire spread and suppression. It employs a cellular space model to simulate fire spread and agent models that interact with the cellular space to simulate fire suppression with realistic tactics. The complex interplay among forest cells and agents calls for formal treatment of the fire spread and fire suppression ...
